CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer fell in Northwestern State in a narrow 2-1 loss at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium Friday night.
"They fought hard," said head coach
Craig Shaw. "To battle the number two team in the conference and battle them to a 2-1 result and we had a 1-1 save the goalkeeper made; we had our chances and I'm proud of how we fought."
The Islanders scored the first goal of the match as sophomore
Rebekah George headed a ball into the goal one minute into the duel for an early 1-0 lead. The Demons retaliated just under 19 minutes into the game with a goal of their own. The final goal came by Northwestern State with just over 65 minutes into the game to seal the match.
Junior
Kennedy Stelling fought in the net for the Islanders all 90 minutes, earning seven saves for the team to keep the matchup close. This marks the second consecutive game she has played complete games for A&M-Corpus Christi.
Five different Islanders combined for five shots on the night for the team with three of them being on target. Three of the shots came in the first half before earning two more in the latter portion of the game. The team had two corner kicks in the contest, one coming in each half of the game.
A&M-Corpus Christi returns to action against Lamar on Sunday for senior day at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
