A&M-Corpus Christi’s 10-0 Home Record at Stake Thursday against UNO in Dugan Wellness Center

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
Just one game out of first-place in the conference standings, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball program will put its undefeated 10-0 home record on the line Thursday when it hosts New Orleans at 5 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center.
 
The game is a T-Shirt Giveaway White Out, presented by Jersey Mike's.
 
It will be A&M-Corpus Christi's (12-7, 4-1 SLC) final appearance in the Dugan Wellness Center this season. Between the Dugan Wellness Center and the American Bank Center, the Islanders have outscored the opposition 714-499 at home.
 
The Islanders have won six of their last seven games overall and are one game behind Southeastern for first-place.
 
The Islanders are coming off a road win at Northwestern State on Saturday where they jumped out to a 38-19 halftime lead. Senior Makinna Serrata poured in 25 points and junior Alecia Westbrook netted 21 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.
 
Westbrook ranks 18th in the nation in rebounding (11.1 rpg) and averages a double-double with 13.2 points per game. She's a three-time SLC Player of the Week winner this year. Westbrook has grabbed at least eight rebounds in every game this season and also ranks second in the league in field goal percentage with a .503 mark.
 
Serrata also averages in double-figures with 12.9 points per game, including 15.3 in conference games. Serrata ranks third in the SLC in field goal percentage with a .494 clip.
 
Tied for second in the league in steals is Westbrook and sophomore Paige Allen with 2.3 per game. Allen also scores 7.1 points per game.
 
Sophomore Violeta Verano leads the league in assists with 4.2 per game and has dished out at least a pair of assists in every game this year. Verano is averaging 9.6 points per game in conference.
 
Sophomore Nabaweeyah McGill leads the SLC in blocks with 1.5 per game. Her season-high is seven against UIW in the Dugan Wellness Center.
 
The Privateers (1-11, 0-5 SLC) are looking for their first conference win of the year but have been in a lot of close battles. In conference games, DeArica Pryor averages 16.0 points per game and netted 22 points in a tight 69-68 defeat to Nicholls.

NOTES
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 13-3 all-time against New Orleans and has won the last five meetings. The Islanders are 7-0 at home against the Privateers.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 4-1 in conference for the third time in the last four years.
 
- Head coach Royce Chadwick, who is up to 701 career wins as a collegiate head coach, has 204 career SLC victories and is chasing James Smith's mark of 210 wins at Northwestern State from 1987-04 to become the winningest coach in league history. Chadwick's career SLC record is 204-98 including 13 wins at Sam Houston, 111 at Stephen F. Austin and 80 at A&M-Corpus Christi.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi ranks 26th in the nation in steals per game (10.7). The Islanders lead the SLC in assists (14.95 apg), field goal percentage defense (.363) and rebounding margin (+5.6).
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 11-0 when leading at half and 11-0 when it outrebounds the opposition.
 
- There are only four current student-athletes in the entire Southland Conference that have won an SLC championship, and all four are on A&M-Corpus Christi: Westbrook, Serrata, Hayle Campbell and Olivia Dowden.
