PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – With both teams off to 2-0 starts, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis programs will see a lot of action on the court this week with matches against Prairie View A&M, Texas A&M and UTSA.
Â
The Islanders will play doubleheaders at Prairie View A&M on Tuesday in rematches beginning at noon. The women will then head to Texas A&M at noon Thursday before returning home the next day for a 2 p.m. bout against UTSA. The men will close it out Sunday with a 5 p.m. match at Texas A&M.
Â
A&M-Corpus Christi first has its mind set on PVAMU, which it saw last Wednesday on opening day. The men swept a pair of matches 7-0 and 7-0, while the women topped the Lady Panthers 6-1 and 7-0.
Â
"We had a great week of practice and really worked hard on some things. I feel like our team is really embracing the commitment to fitness and coming every day to work hard on the right things. We have a tough challenge on the road Tuesday at Prairie View and it's another challenge to play every point with intensity, physicality and mental toughness," said head coach
Steve Moore.
Â
In the first meetings, every student-athlete on the A&M-Corpus Christi roster won a singles match. Sophomore
Leopoldine Boisseau went 4-0 after winning two singles and two doubles matches.
Â
The men are 34-0 all-time against PVAMU and the women are 31-0.
Â
Both teams will be tested with matches against Texas A&M. The Aggies are ranked No. 13 in the nation on the women's side and No. 19 on the men's. The last time the Islanders and the Aggies squared off was in the 2019 Men's NCAA Tournament, which was highlighted by
