Men’s Basketball Hosts McNeese Thursday, HBU Saturday at American Bank Center

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas
– Still unbeaten at home this year, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program will put its 7-0 home record on the line when it hosts McNeese at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and HBU at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the American Bank Center.
 
It will be the second meeting this year between A&M-Corpus Christi (14-4, 1-0 SLC) and McNeese (7-11, 1-0 SLC) after they met at the SLC Preseason Tipoff. The Islanders won 67-54 in the third-place game as senior De'Lazarus Keys led the way with a season-high 16 point on 7-of-10 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. A&M-Corpus Christi erased a 10-point first half deficit to lead at the intermission.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi began conference play with an 80-64 victory over UIW last weekend. The Islanders opened the second half on an 8-0 run and their lead never dropped below double-figures the rest of the way. Junior Trevian Tennyson registered 20 points and was 7-for-9 from the field and 4-of-5 from long range.
 
The Islanders are a perfect 7-0 at home this year. They are 209-101 all-time at home and 138-74 at the American Bank Center.
 
Junior Isaac Mushila leads the team in both scoring and rebounding. He averages 14.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per outing and has five double-doubles on the year. He's third in the SLC in rebounding and fifth in scoring. Mushila, who did not start until the fifth game, has netted over 20 points four times.
 
Along with Mushila, Tennyson averages in double-figures with 12.6 points per game. Tennyson has hit a three-pointer in every game this year and poured in a career-high 23 points against Nicholls in the semifinals of the SLC Preseason Tipoff.
 
Junior Terrion Murdix leads the league in assist:turnover ratio (1.8), is second in assists (4.1 apg) and fourth in steals (1.8 spg). He's one of two Islanders ranked top-five in the SLC in assists along with junior Jalen Jackson with 3.4 per outing.
 
Senior Simeon Fryer averages 8.2 points per game and is shooting .429 (24-56) from three-point range. Fryer has started in 27 consecutive games dating back to last season.
 
McNeese and HBU opened league play against each other and the Cowboys finished on top 78-75 on a last second three-pointer by Zach Scott. At the SLC Preseason Tipoff, McNeese finished fourth after winning its opening game against New Orleans in double overtime 92-82, while HBU placed eighth.

NOTES
- The Islanders are 14-5 all-time against McNeese and have won 11 consecutive meetings. A&M-Corpus Christi is also 9-1 against the Cowboys at home. The two teams did not play last year.
 
- The Islanders are 11-4 all-time against HBU and 7-0 at home. In the only meeting last year, A&M-Corpus Christi went on the road to win 94-70 in the season finale.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is one victory away from tripling its win total from last season where it finished 5-19 overall.
 
- All 13 student-athletes that have played for A&M-Corpus Christi this year have scored in double-figures in a game. The 13 is tied for the most in the nation with Bowling Green.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is receiving 27 votes in the CollegeInsider Mid Major Top-25 Poll. The Islanders are the only SLC team on the list.
 
- The Islanders lead the nation in both free throws made (293) and are fourth in free throw attempts (396). They are fifth in turnovers forced per game (18.8) and 18th in steals per game (9.4).
 
- The Islanders are 10-0 this season when holding the opponent to under 33 percent from three-point range, 10-0 when holding the opponent to under 70 points and 10-0 when leading at half.
 
- In addition to the categories where they rank nationally, the Islanders lead the SLC in scoring offense (79.7 ppg), scoring defense (67.7 ppg), field goal percentage defense (.419), assists (16.44 apg), assist:turnover ratio (1.19) and turnover margin (+4.94).
 
- Prior to conference play, A&M-Corpus Christi won a school record 13 non-conference games. It's the most since joining a league in 2006-07 (the program competed as an Independent prior to joining the Southland Conference). The Islanders got off to their best start in program history with a 10-2 record after 12 games.
