CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
Starting the Southland Conference slate on a high note, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program downed UIW 80-64 on Saturday at the American Bank Center.

The game shifted near the end of the first half and carried into the second. The Islanders (14-4, 1-0 SLC) scored the final bucket of the first and then opened the second on an 8-0 run to create separation and go up 43-24. A&M-Corpus Christi's lead never dropped below double-digits the rest of the way.

Sharp-shooting junior Trevian Tennyson poured in 20 points. He was 7-of-9 from the field and 4-of-5 from long range to lead the way.

Nearing a double-double was junior Isaac Mushila with 13 points and eight rebounds. Fellow junior Terrion Murdix registered 12 points and five assists off the bench.

The Cardinals (4-14, 0-1 SLC) were not scared to shoot and were 11-of-33 from three. In the first half, they made seven field goals and all seven were threes.

RJ Glasper had the hot hand with a game-high 28 points. He was 6-of-11 from beyond-the-arc and 6-for-6 from the free throw line. He was the only UIW student-athlete to score in double-figures.

Though, UIW's determination to hit outside shots cost them inside where A&M-Corpus Christi held a 39-29 rebounding edge and a 30-12 advantage in points in the paint.

The Islanders opened the game on an 8-0 run as senior Simeon Fryer started it off with a three. Though, UIW quickly got back in it with a 7-0 spurt to make it an 8-7 game. The Cardinals took the lead 16-13 at the 10:07 mark, but never led again for the rest of the game.

The go-ahead bucket came on a three-pointer by junior Jalen Jackson to put A&M-Corpus Christi back up 22-19 with 6:54 left. A jumper by senior San Antonio Brinson extended it to 30-22 with 1:14 left. The Islanders garnered the final bucket of the half on a lay-in by Murdix with 42 seconds left to change the score to 32-24 at the break.

A&M-Corpus Christi put the game out of reach early in the second. Tennyson opened the period with a three and later converted an and-one to go up 43-24 with 18:00 remaining. The largest lead of the game 61-39 came with 8:23 to go after a pair of free throws by Mushila.
