CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Conference play tips off Saturday for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program when it hosts UIW at 3:30 p.m. at the American Bank Center.

A&M-Corpus Christi (13-4, 0-0 SLC) went 2-1 at the SLC Preseason Tipoff in Katy, Texas, finishing in third-place. UIW (4-13, 0-0 SLC) posted a 1-2 record and ended with a win over HBU to place seventh.

Over the three games, junior
Isaac Mushila averaged 17.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He also shot .607 (17-28) from the floor and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Mushila has won two Southland Conference Player of the Week awards this season. He averages 14.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per outing and has five double-doubles on the year. He's second in the SLC in rebounding and fourth in scoring. Mushila, who did not start until the fifth game, has netted over 20 points four times.

Along with Mushila, junior
Trevian Tennyson averages in double-figures with 12.1 points per game. Tennyson has hit a three-pointer in every game this year and poured in a career-high 23 points against Nicholls in the semifinals of the SLC Preseason Tipoff.

A&M-Corpus Christi has seven student-athletes who score over 7.0 points per game. Senior
Simeon Fryer averages 8.5 points per game and is shooting .426 (23-54) from three-point range. It's more than 20 percentage points higher from his three-point percentage from last year of .224.

Junior
Terrion Murdix ranks second in the league in assists (4.1 apg), fourth in assist:turnover ratio (1.7) and fourth in steals (1.8 spg). Murdix scored a career-high 19 points at Omaha and 18 at Minnesota.

As a team, A&M-Corpus Christi leads the nation in both free attempts (377) and free throws made (276). They are fifth in turnovers forced per game (19.18), sixth in total assists (278) and sixth in total steals (167).

In addition to the categories where they rank nationally, the Islanders lead the SLC in scoring defense (67.9 ppg), assists (16.4 apg), turnover margin (+5.4), assist:turnover ratio (1.2) and steals (9.8 spg)

The Islanders will put their undefeated 6-0 home record on the line against the Cardinals, who defeated HBU 60-50 in their last outing.

Like A&M-Corpus Christi, UIW has used a balance scoring attack. The Cardinals have four student-athletes averaging in double-figures and five who score over 9.0 points per game. RJ Glasper leads the way with 16.4 points pr game, while Josh Morgan averages 12.8 points and shoots .422 from long range.

UIW is the best free throw shooting team in the league with a .753 percentage.

- The Islanders are 9-6 all-time against the Cardinals and 5-2 at home. Though, UIW won both meetings last season.

- A&M-Corpus Christi's 13 wins are the most it's ever won prior to conference play beginning since joining a league in 2006-07 (the program competed as an Independent prior to joining the Southland Conference). The Islanders got off to their best start in program history with a 10-2 record after 12 games.

- The Islanders have more-than doubled their win total from last season when they finished 5-19 overall. They are two wins away from tripling their win total.
