CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the reigning Southland Conference Men's & Women's Tournament champions, released its tennis schedules Monday.
The season begins Monday, Jan. 17 when the Islanders head to Prairie View A&M. Both teams are coming off NCAA Tournament appearances and combined to win three championships last spring. The men will be looking to make their 10th NCAA Tournament in program history and the women fifth.
The women will play notable non-conference matches against Texas A&M, UTSA, UTRGV, Rice, Sam Houston and Lamar. The men will take on Texas A&M, UT Arlington, UTRGV, UL-Lafayette, SMU, UTSA, Rice and Lamar, in addition to hosting the H-E-B Tournament of Champions on Feb. 18-20.
Conference play begins Saturday, March 12 when the women host UIW. On Wednesday, March 16, the Islanders will host new associate member NJIT at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. Both the men and women will play a single round robin SLC format.
"We are so excited for the spring 2022 season! These young women and men worked incredibly hard this fall and improved tremendously. We believe we have good nationally ranked opportunities for both teams to again challenge to reach a high national ranking. I have always said the spring season is about character, team unity, discipline and grit. It takes tremendous discipline to keep your body managed through the grueling spring season. Every spring season is the same movie with adversity, injuries and always challenges. The key is who has the character to stay unified and mentally tough through those challenges and not make excuses. I love the character and heart of this team and we can't wait to start this journey together," said head coach

Both the men and women return all six starting singles players from their championship lineups. Both teams ranked top-85 nationally and A&M-Corpus Christi was one of 39 schools in America with both teams at the 2021 NCAA Championships. Men's tennis has won 20 championships, the second-most in the history of the league for any sport.
The SLC Championships are slated for April 22-24 and will be hosted by New Orleans.
