CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
A pair of second half goals resulted in a 2-0 victory for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program over Nicholls on Sunday at Dugan Stadium.

It was one-way traffic the entire day for the Islanders (4-5-2, 2-1-2 SLC) as they outshot Nicholls (0-9, 0-5 SLC) by a 26-2 margin. The goal scorers were sophomores Olivia Alvarez and Maggie Murray.

"We took care of business, which is all I wanted," said head coach Craig Shaw. "We started playing some nice stuff towards the end but it's always hard to play a team that sits back and defends with no intentions to go forward."

The game-winner came in the 65th minute. A loose ball deflected by freshman Megan Guy found the feet of Alvarez at the top of the box and she was able to fire a right-footer into the lower left corner of the net. It was the fourth career goal and first of the year for Alvarez.
The Islanders nearly tacked on another in the 75th minute. Off a corner by freshman Carmen Cervantez, fellow freshman Raegan Sharer headed-in a ball right in front of the keeper but it was called off due to a foul on A&M-Corpus Christi away from the action.

A minute later, the Islanders scored – and this time it wasn't disallowed. After a drive down the left side by Guy, she sent a centering pass that was redirected by senior Reaghan Lang and scored into the near post by Murray. It was the sixth career score and second of the season by Murray.

Murray and freshman Megan Westbury posted a game-high four shots apiece as 12 different Islanders were credited a shot. Alvarez and sophomore Natalie Gonzalez each notched three.

Freshman Emily Levy made her second start and third appearance in net. She submitted a clean sheet after making a pair of saves. Center backs Emma Herrera and Emma Crump played all 90 minutes.

A&M-Corpus Christi is now 3-0-1 in its last four games against the Colonels.

Sunday marked the final home game in over a month for the Islanders, who went 2-1-1 on their four game homestand. A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 4-2-2 at home on the year.

Up next, the Islanders will travel to UIW for a 5 p.m. Friday match.
