CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
A rough match-up between the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer program and Southeastern concluded in a 1-1 draw Friday at Dugan Stadium.

The Islanders (3-5-2, 1-1-2 SLC) scored in the 11th minute on a goal by freshman Megan Guy. The play began with a drive down the right side by sophomore Maggie Murray. Her centering pass found the feet of junior Samantha Palomino who slipped a short through ball in front of the net for Guy and the finish was in the lower right side.

It was the second goal of the year for the Roanoke, Texas native.

The Lady Lions (2-5-1, 1-2-1 SLC) found the equalizer in the 56th minute. The goal was credited to Makenzie Maher with an assist on the cross by Jamie Raines.

The Islanders had a chance in the 80th minute as sophomore Natalie Gonzalez found space and was all alone one-on-one with the keeper just outside the box on a fast-break, but right before she could pull the trigger she was taken down from behind. A red card was issued to SLU's Haylii Roe and the Lady Lions played shorthanded the rest of the way.

A&M-Corpus Christi nearly scored in the 82nd minute, but Guy's shot from the left side hit off the left post.

In overtime, both teams had a few chances, but ultimately the ball stayed out of the net.

"The win would have been nice but I am very proud of the way we played. Probably some of our best soccer this season," said head coach Craig Shaw.

The Islanders posted a slight 17-16 advantage in shots, including a 10-7 edge in shots on goal. Junior Emma Gibbs registered a game-high five shots, while Guy and Palomino tallied three apiece. Gibbs played all 110 minutes along with freshman defender Emma Crump.

Sophomore Kennedy Stelling made six saves in net.

The Islanders are now 2-1-2 all-time against SLU at home.

A&M-Corpus Christi will wrap-up a four-game home stand Sunday when it hosts Nicholls at 1 p.m. at Dugan Stadium. The Islanders are 2-0-1 in their last three games against the Colonels.
