CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A new era of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball begins Nov. 9 as first year head coach
Steve Lutz and the Islanders announced the 2021-22 schedule Thursday.
The Islanders will play 13 home games, including the season opener against Texas Lutheran at the American Bank Center.
A&M-Corpus Christi will travel for road games at Texas A&M, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Omaha, UTSA and UTRGV, and will play a couple neutral court games versus IUPUI and Denver.
"We've put together a challenging schedule that will allow our student-athletes to gain valuable experience early in the season. We have a lot of newcomers who should benefit greatly from these marquee games as we prepare for our quest to win the Southland Conference Championship," Lutz said. "I look forward to the season getting underway."
The Islanders will face UTRGV twice in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. The home game at the American Bank Center is slated for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8.
Prior to conference play, the A&M-Corpus Christi will play in the unique Southland Conference Classic, which pits all eight teams in a preseason tournament on Jan. 6-8 in Katy, Texas.
Conference play begins Saturday, Jan. 15 with a double round robin SLC format. The SLC Tournament will be held March 9-12 at the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
The Islanders brought back three starters from last year's squad including seniors
Myles Smith,
De'Lazarus Keys and
Simeon Fryer. They also welcomed 10 newcomers.
