SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer program concluded its non-conference schedule with a 4-0 defeat to Texas State on Sunday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The game was scoreless after 35 minutes when Texas State (3-2-1) tallied a pair of late goals in the first half, and bundled it with two more early in the second to pull away from the Islanders (2-4-1).

"We learned today as a young team if we don't show up with the energy that good teams that had the week off they'll punish us," said head coach
Craig Shaw. "It's better to learn lessons in non-conference."

A&M-Corpus Christi registered eight shots in the game, including a pair from freshmen
Morgan Westbury and
Storm Harris. Junior
Samantha Palomino, junior
Alana Mangan, freshman
Raegan Sharer and freshman
Megan Guy also recorded shots.

Sophomore
Emma Herrera logged a team-high 86 minutes in the back. The Islanders used 20 different student-athletes in the match. Sophomore
Olivia Alvarez, a Preseason All-Conference Second-Team selection, made her first start of the year as she's returning from injury.

A&M-Corpus Christi played two different goalkeepers that had identical statistics. Sophomore
Kennedy Stelling, the reigning Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week winner, played the first half and made four saves. Freshman
Emily Levy entered in the second and also made four saves.

The Islanders are now 2-1 in their last three games against the Bobcats.

A&M-Corpus Christi will resume conference play Friday when it hosts McNeese at 7:30 p.m. at Dugan Stadium. It will kick-off a four-game homestand.
