CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Just one touch decided the outcome Wednesday evening as UTSA recorded a 1-0 tally over the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer program at Dugan Stadium.
Â
The only score came in the 32nd minute when Kendall Kloza finished off a corner kick for UTSA (4-1). The Islanders (1-2) pressured late, but just couldn't garner the equalizer.
Â
"I was proud of the ladies tonight. We fought really well, got 15 underclassmen into the game and only allowed a goal off a corner. It's a good building block for this week," said head coach
Craig Shaw.
Â
Freshman
Megan Guy paced the offense in her first career start with a pair of shots. Also with shots were senior
Reaghan Lang and freshman
Raegan Sharer.
Â
Sophomore
Kennedy Stelling kept the Islanders in the game the whole way and made six saves in net. She made her second consecutive start.
Â
Logging 90 minutes in the match were junior
Emma Gibbs, sophomore
Emma Herrera and freshman
Emma Crump. Herrera has played all 270 minutes on the year.
Â
The Roadrunners were coming off wins over Tulsa, Cal Baptist and Grand Canyon. Their only loss was to 16th-ranked Oklahoma State. Ellis Patterson and Halee Griffin notched three shots apiece.
Â
It marked the first of three games in five days for A&M-Corpus Christi, which will hit the road Friday for a 7 p.m. game at Prairie View A&M.
