ORLEANS, Mass. – Islanders baseball standout
Hayden Thomas has been added to the roster of the Orleans Firebirds. The Firebirds compete in the Cape Cod Amateur Baseball League.
Â
"The Cape" as it is referred to in the college baseball circles, is recognized as the highest level of amateur summer league baseball.
Â
Thomas, a pitcher from Leander, Texas, is expected to make his first start in the upcoming days. His progress with the Firebirds can be tracked online on the
Firebirds website or on Twitter
@FirebirdsCCBL.
Â
"Hayden is an outstanding student-athlete on and off the field. I have no doubt Hayden and his upper 90's fastball will thrive competing against the best college players from all over the United States," said Islanders head coach
Scott Malone. "We are proud to see him represent the Island University on the national stage."
Â
"The Cape" is a non-profit organization. Players from across the United States representing all NCAA college divisions are recruited to play in the 10-team league. One in every six Major League Baseball players has played in the Cape Cod Baseball League, according to capecodbaseball.org.
Â
With the Islanders, Thomas hoisted a 4-3 record and 3.31 ERA in a team-high 81.2 innings this past season. He ranked top-five in the Southland Conference in strikeouts with 94. Thomas has two more years of eligibility remaining.
