CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Coming from one of the top NJCAA programs in the nation, Terrion Murdix signed to play for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program, announced by Head Coach
Steve Lutz.
Murdix, a 6-1 guard from Springfield, Illinois, was the starting point guard for a Mineral Area College squad that went undefeated in the regular season and finished 24-1 overall. Murdix guided the team to the Region 16 Championship, the NJCAA Midwest District Championship and the NJCAA Elite Eight.
Murdix had Mineral Area ranked as high as No. 2 in the country after entering the postseason with a 20-0 record.
On the season, Murdix averaged 9.8 points, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game and shot .839 from the free throw line. He reached double-figures in scoring nine times, double-digits in assists three times and tallied a double-double of 16 points and 11 assists against John A. Logan on Jan. 30.
"Terrion is the consummate point guard. He has competed and been very successful at the highest level of junior college basketball. He comes from a great family and has the unique ability to control the game with his passing, scoring and defense. We are excited to welcome him to the Islander Family," Lutz said.
Murdix spent two years at Mineral Area. As a freshman, he steered the team to a 30-2 record and averaged 10.2 points per outing. Mineral Area was 28-0 at home in his two seasons.
In high school, Murdix was named the State Journal-Register's Large School Boys Basketball Player of the Year at Springfield Southeast High. In his four-year career, he averaged 18 points, 8.2 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game.
As a senior in 2018-19, Murdix led the team to a 30-3 record (18-0 CSEC) and won a Central State Eight Conference Championship. He was an All-State, All-District and All-Conference honoree. Murdix holds the school's all-time assists record.
He tallied 1,039 career points, won three championships and notched a 103-22 record with the Spartans.
Murdix has three years of eligibility remaining and will be studying towards a degree in business at A&M-Corpus Christi.
