CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – One of the top high school players in the state of Indiana, Owen Dease signed a national letter of intent to play with the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program, announced by Head Coach
Steve Lutz.
Dease, a 6-8 forward, will arrive on The Island as a true freshman after playing at Evansville Reitz HS. He was named to the Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top-60, selected from a pool of 1,500 players state-wide.
In 22 games in 2020-21, Dease averaged 17.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per outing. He shot .530 (87-163) from the field, .360 (45-126) from three and .790 (68-86) from the free throw line. Dease, a four-year letterwinner, scored over 1,000 points in his career.
"Owen is a very skilled and versatile player that I've had my eye on for a long time. He's very efficient offensively and has competed at a high level for a very good high school program," Lutz said. "Owen is a proven winner from a great family. We are very excited to add him to the Islander Family."
Dease led Evansville Reitz to back-to-back SIAC conference and sectional championships. He earned All-State honors and was a two-time Southern Indiana Athletic All-Conference First-Team selection and on the Evansville Downtown Kiwanis Club First-Team. Dease was also named the Male Athlete of the Year at Reitz.
Dease will be studying towards a degree in health sciences and has career plans of becoming a chiropractor.
