CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program made another addition to its 2021-22 roster with the signing of Trevian "Trey" Tennyson, announced by Head Coach
Steve Lutz.
Tennyson, a 6-4 guard from Arlington, Texas, has both Division I and JUCO experience, having played at Ranger College in 2020-21 and Central Connecticut State in 2019-20.
"Trey is a natural scorer who helped lead his team to a high school state title in 2017 and also a Final Four finish at the National Junior College Tournament this past season. He comes from a great family and is a very hard worker. We are excited to welcome him to the Islander Family," Lutz said.
Tennyson is coming off a big year at Ranger where he averaged 16.1 points and 3.6 assists per outing. He shot .498 from the field, .426 (40-94) from three-point range and .868 (59-68) from the free throw line. Tennyson also posted a 1.5 assist:turnover ratio.
Tennyson played a large role in Ranger's 22-5 record, including a 12-3 mark in conference. He helped the team win the NTJCAC Championship, the NJCAA Region V Championship and reach the NJCAA Final Four. He was 4-for-7 from three with 16 points in the Final Four game against Cowley County CC.
At CCSU, Tennyson ranked second on the team with a .426 three-point percentage. He registered five double-figure scoring games, including a season-high 15 points at Saint Francis U. where he was 5-for-7 from the floor and 3-for-4 from long range. Tennyson averaged 4.4 points per game on the year.
In high school, Tennyson tallied 24.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per contest at Mansfield Legacy HS. He set a school single-game record with a 42-point performance and earned the league's 2019 Offensive Player of the Year honor.
Tennyson was named to the Star-Telegram All-Area Second-Team, the TABC Class 5A All-Region 1 Team and was MVP of the Dallas vs. Tarrant All-Star Game. He guided Mansfield Timberview to the Texas 5A state championship as a sophomore in 2017.
Tennyson will be studying toward a degree in computer engineering at A&M-Corpus Christi.
