Jackson was a three-star recruit out of high school, the No. 17 ranked player out of Texas and No. 19 ranked point guard in the nation according to 247sports.com. In addition to North Texas, he had offers from UTSA, Middle Tennessee and UT Arlington.

"Jalen is a tremendous young man and leader. He is someone that I have watched grow as a basketball player and a young man for the last 5-10 years. He possesses the unique ability to defend the basketball for 94' and also has the speed and quickness to be aggressive offensively. He has been a key component to both a winning high program in San Antonio and also a very successful NCAA Division I program.  I look for him to be someone who provides a lot of excitement to the program for the next three seasons," Lutz said. "We are excited to welcome him to the Islanders family!"

In high school at Wagner, he was the No. 201 ranked player in the country in the class of 2019. In his senior season, he was the 26-5A District MVP, TABC All-State, TABC All-Region and the San Antonio Express News Player of the Year.

In 2019, Jackson averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 6.5 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 0.9 blocks per game. His best outing was a quadruple double with 19 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals on Jan. 22, 2019.

Jackson earned South San Tournament MVP and Whataburger All-Tournament Team honors. He's the all-time leading scorer at Wagner.
