Islanders Resume Southland Action at Nicholls State

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball heads to Nicholls State for a four-game Southland set, beginning with a Friday, April 9 doubleheader at 3 p.m. followed by single games on Saturday (6:30 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.).
 
Islander Notes
  • Senior trio Luke Marbach, Itchy Burts and Mike Williams combined for six of the Islanders' nine hits in the squad's 14-4 loss to No. 4 Texas.
  • The Islander offense exploded for a season-high 12 runs and 14 hits to claim a game-two, 12-6 victory over Sam Houston on March 27. Eight players registered a hit in the lopsided contest with Brendan Ryan and Tristan Welch each enjoying a 3-for-4 day.
  • Hayden Thomas' 3.23 ERA through six starts ranks among the top-10 in the Southland, with his 51 strikeouts being third best among league pitchers.
  • Burts leads the Islanders with 22 hits and nine multi-hit games this season, but Marbach's offense-fueled weekend surpassed Burts for multi-RBI games with five.
  • After a stellar showing at the Shriners College Classic, senior Mike Williams was tabbed to the All-Tournament team after he batted .375 over the three-game tournament and tallied a hit in all three contests including a monster two-RBI home run in the Saturday showing against Rice that afforded the Islanders an early 2-0 advantage.  
  • A&M-Corpus Christi head coach Scott Malone is in his 14th season at the helm of the Islanders and boasts a career record of 327-381-2 and 168-204-2 in Southland play.
Scouting the Opponent
  • Coming off a 2-2 split in non-conference games against UT Martin and Louisiana, Nicholls enters the series with a 13-14 overall mark with eight of those wins coming in Southland play.
  • Greg Anderberg leads Nicholls with a .287 batting average, scattering 25 hits and bringing in 16 RBI.
  • Joe Taylor has proved essential in locking up victories on the mound, as the junior tallies five saves through 14 appearances.
