CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball hits the road for a four-game Southland set against Lamar beginning Friday, April 30 with a single game at 6:30 p.m. followed by a pair of 1 p.m. start times the next two days for a Saturday doubleheader and Sunday matinee at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
Islander Notes
- The Islanders claimed their third-straight series victory by a 3-1 margin over Houston Baptist this past weekend at Chapman Field. Remaining hot in conference play, A&M-Corpus Christi proved victorious in 10 of its last 12 games and is seventh in the Southland standings.
- With the series on the line, Brendan Ryan provided the dramatic finish with a walk-off single to hand the Islanders a 9-8 victory and the series against HBU. Ryan proved an offensive powerhouse throughout the series, gathering seven hits and eight RBIs in the weekend series.
- A&M-Corpus Christi surpassed season-highs in runs and hits in the series opener, breaking out the bats for a 13-6 win that included 16 hits for the blue and green.
- The Islanders rank third among the Southland in triples (11), with Ryan and Josh Caraway earning three apiece.
- Itchy Burts' paces the Islanders and ranks eighth in the league with 47 hits while Mike Williams ties for 13th in both hits (44) and RBIs (30).
- Luke Marbach is swinging at a .369 clip to lead the Islanders and is one of four players to bat above .300 on the season.
- Hayden Thomas sits among the Southland leaderboards, ranking third in strike outs looking (20) and sixth in overall strikeouts (61). His 2.86 ERA is fifth-best in the league.
- A&M-Corpus Christi head coach Scott Malone is in his 14th season at the helm of the Islanders and boasts a career record of 337-384-2 and 178-207-2 in Southland play.
Scouting the Opponent
- Returning to the field for the first time since April 18, Lamar brings a 17-13 overall and 9-11 conference mark into the weekend series.
- The Cardinals' pitching staff owns a league-best 3.30 ERA and is the only member to have a below 4.00 total.
- Lamar also ranks second in league batting averages, with Avery George pacing the squad with a .349 clip that's good for fifth in the Southland.
