CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After a four and a half hour weather delay, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program dropped the series finale 8-2 to Nicholls on a soggy Saturday at Chapman Field.
The game was initially delayed due to lightning in the area, but then the rain started to come down hard which brought the tarp onto the field.
Once play finally got underway, A&M-Corpus Christi (17-24, 7-11 SLC) scored the first run in the first inning, but Nicholls (10-21, 3-15 SLC) responded with eight unanswered runs over the next four frames to create separation.
Freshman
Haley Morse tallied her fifth multi-hit game of the year. She extended her reached base streak to 15 in a row.
Also with hits in the game were sophomore
Ashleigh Sgambelluri, sophomore
Pal Egan, freshman
Sydney Hoyt and sophomore
MacKenzie Purcell.
Egan posted a .667 batting average and .818 on base percentage over the three game series.
A&M-Corpus Christi's run in the first inning was scored by junior
Tiler Noyola. She led it off with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a wild pitch. Sophomore
Beatriz Lara hit a sacrifice fly to center to plate the run.
The Islanders also scored one in the seventh. It came on an RBI single to center by Morse, which scored Noyola.
The contest wrapped-up a seven-game home stand for A&M-Corpus Christi. The team will travel to Southeastern Louisiana next weekend for a three-game set. Game one is slated for 5 p.m. Friday.
