CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After dropping the first game 4-2, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program responded with a 3-2 win over Nicholls in game two on Friday at Chapman Field.

With a hit in game one and two hits in game two, junior
Tiler Noyola extended her hitting streak to 10 games. Freshman
Haley Morse walked in game one and registered a hit in game two and has now reached base safely in 14 consecutive outings.

Freshman
Madison Johnson made her first career start in game two. She lasted 4.2 innings and allowed just two runs to settle for a no decision. Sophomore
Beatriz Lara threw 2.1 innings and tallied her 12th win of the year after giving up no runs and just one hit.

In game one, A&M-Corpus Christi (17-23, 7-10 SLC) got on the board in the first inning. It came on an RBI single by sophomore
Pal Egan.
Â
After the Colonels (9-21, 2-15 SLC) scored two in the third, the Islanders tied it 2-2 in the fourth. It came on an RBI double by sophomore
MacKenzie Purcell.

Though, Nicholls scored two runs on two hits, a walk and an error in the fifth to go up 4-2 and hung-on in the final three frames.

Ashleigh Sgambelluri both notched multi-hit games. It was the second of the year for Purcell and eighth for Sgambelluri.

Lara threw a complete-game and also knocked a double at the plate.

In game two, A&M-Corpus Christi scored twice in the first inning to take an early lead. It came on a two out single down the left field line by sophomore
Sammi Thomas to plate a pair.

Nicholls tied it with two runs in the fifth and were further threatening with the bases loaded when Lara entered in relief and forced a pop up to get out of the game.

With the score still tied 2-2, freshman
Sydney Hoyt delivered the game-winning hit in the sixth. With two outs and a runner on third, Hoyt ripped a single to left to bring in the go-ahead run.

Nicholls threatened in the seventh with runners on first and second with one out, but Lara ended the game with a pop up and a fly out to right to end the game.

Noyola and Egan both recorded two hits in the contest. It was Egan's team-leading 11th multi-hit game and Noyola's eighth.

It was A&M-Corpus Christi's first win over Nicholls since 2015 as they snapped an 11-game skid in the all-time series.
Â
A&M-Corpus Christi will conclude a seven-game home stand Saturday when it plays Nicholls in a rubber match at 11 a.m. at Chapman Field.
