CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball kicks off back-to-back Southland home series with a four-game set against Central Arkansas beginning Friday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Saturday (April 17) doubleheader at 2 p.m. and Sunday single game at 11 a.m. at Chapman Field.
Islander Notes
- The Islanders aim to continue their winning ways after claiming their first Southland series over Nicholls with a 3-1 weekend, including matching a season-high 12 runs in the runaway finale.
- Junior John Gaddis tossed a complete-game effort and picked up his first mound victory of 2021 in 7.0 innings of work, scattering five hits and striking out eight in a 5-1 victory to help the Islanders sweep the doubleheader.
- Senior Mike Williams recorded a hit in each of the Islanders' three wins over Nicholls and posted a three-hit game to open the series that included a triple and RBI to fuel an extra-inning comeback. He launched homers in games two and four that accounted for four of his team-high eight RBIs while adding a pair of stolen bases. The senior is tied for a team-best four homers this spring.
- Luke Marbach stands in an eight-way tie for seventh in the Southland in doubles with nine while Josh Caraway is in a four-way deadlock at second with three triples.
- Hayden Thomas sits among the Southland leaderboards, ranking second in strike outs looking (19) and fourth in overall strikeouts (54). His 3.48 ERA is 11th-best in the league.
- Marbach's .368 batting average paces the Islanders offense, while Itchy Burts leads the team in hits (37) and Williams in RBIs (22).
- A&M-Corpus Christi head coach Scott Malone is in his 14th season at the helm of the Islanders and boasts a career record of 330-382-2 and 171-205-2 in Southland play.
Scouting the Opponent
- Central Arkansas enters the series with a 10-16 overall record and 6-10 conference mark, splitting their first three Southland series before being swept by Sam Houston April 1-3.
- UCA head coach Allen Gum is three wins away from reaching 300 in his UCA career during his 11th season at the helm.
- Offensive powerhouse Connor Emmet leads the Bears in hits (29), runs (17), home runs (3), RBIs (17) and total bases (39).
- In their last game, the Bears overcame an early deficit with a big fifth inning to steal a 4-2 victory from the Little Rock Trojans in the Tuesday midweek.
