CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Scoring at least one run in every inning, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi put forth an all-around effort Wednesday in an 8-0 mercy rule win in five innings over UTSA at Chapman Field.
The Islanders (16-22, 6-9 SLC) racked up 11 hits in 4.2 innings. Eight different A&M-Corpus Christi student-athletes tallied at least one hit against UTSA (11-20, 5-3 CUSA).
Sophomore
Beatriz Lara got it done with both the arm and the bat. She threw a complete-game, one-hit shutout and struck out seven batters in 5.0 innings. Lara improved to 11-7 on the year. At the plate, she went two-for-two with a walk and an RBI triple.
Also with multi-hit games were junior
Tiler Noyola and sophomore
Pal Egan. It was the seventh multi-hit game of the year for Noyola and a team-leading 10th for Egan.
Noyola extended her hitting streak to eight games. Freshman
Haley Morse extended her reached base safely streak to 12 games with a double.

Kennedy Jimenez, sophomore
Ashleigh Sgambelluri, freshman
Sydney Hoyt and sophomore
Sammi Thomas knocked singles to round out the offense.
The Islanders got on the board in the first inning on a two-out RBI single by Thomas. It plated Morse who walked and advanced to second on a walk by Egan.
A&M-Corpus Christi increased its advantage to 4-0 with three runs in the second. A sacrifice fly by Sgambelluri to center field score the first run, and then the big blow was a double to left center by Morse.
The Islanders kept it going in the third. They loaded the bases after a walk, a hit by pitch and a single by Jimenez, and scored a run on an RBI single to left by Noyola to make it 5-0.
In the fourth, Hoyt came through with a two out RBI single to score Egan. Lara followed with a rope to right field and legged out a triple to catapult ahead 7-0.
The final tally came in the fifth. With two outs, Egan put the game away with an infield single to score Sgambelluri to end it on a walk-off mercy rule.
It was the second time Lara shutdown the Roadrunners as she threw a complete-game in a 2-1 road win on Feb. 28. She also struck out seven in that game.
The Islanders have won seven of the last eight meetings against UTSA dating back to 2016. The Roadrunners came into Wednesday's game on a four-game winning streak after a sweep at Southern Miss.
A&M-Corpus Christi is in the midst of a seven-game home stand. It will conclude this weekend with a home series against Nicholls. Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Chapman Field.
