CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program cashed-in on their opportunities and registered a 4-1 win over Central Arkansas on Sunday at Dugan Stadium.

The key to the game was surviving the first half. With a strong wind going directly against them, the Islanders (3-3-2, 2-1-1 SLC) found themselves ahead 1-0 after a cross from freshman Natalie Gonzalez was deflected by senior Larissa Fagundes to the feet of freshman Reese Cross, who fired from about 25 yards out and found the top right corner of the net.

The second half was all Islanders. With the wind at their backs, they broke through three times. It started just four and a half minutes into the second when senior Celia Hilsabeck scored on a feed from sophomore Emma Gibbs.

A long run by freshman Maggie Murray made it 3-0 A&M-Corpus Christi in the 69th minute after a through-pass from freshman Olivia Alvarez. The icing on the cake was when senior Abby Deakin juked past the keeper in the 76th minute and calmly rolled in a goal in the lower right corner, assisted by Alvarez.

"So proud of the ladies on how we came out after halftime. We could have easily been losing at the half. We were not ourselves in the first 45 minutes, but we rallied and started playing the way we know we can and scored four really good goals," Craig Shaw.

Hilsabeck recorded a team-high four shots. Also with shots in the contest were Cross, Gonzalez, Murray, Deakin and senior Mariah Ramon.

In the back, sophomore Alana Mangan played all 90 minutes.

UCA's lone tally came in the 80th minute when the game was out of reach when Sydney Brough scored after a pass from Alysssa Aultman.

The Islanders are now 4-4 all-time against the Sugar Bears and have won the last two meetings.

The four goals tied the most the program has ever scored in a conference game along with a 4-0 win over Lamar on Oct. 12, 2014.

A&M-Corpus Christi will continue its program-long seven-game home stand Friday when it hosts Incarnate Word at 7 p.m. at Dugan Stadium.
