Islanders Seek Southland Tournament Spot at Houston Baptist

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball heads into the regular-season finale with its tournament hopes on the line as they battle Houston Baptist in a Southland showdown Saturday, March 6 at 2 p.m.
 
A win over Houston Baptist would give the Islanders the boost needed to earn a bid to the Southland conference championships. Earlier this week, A&M-Corpus Christi took down the Huskies by a 50-43 margin at Dugan Wellness Center for their third-straight victory.

Junior Makinna Serrata continues to be an offensive force for the Islanders, securing her second 16-point explosion in as many games to lead the way in a lopsided 50-43 league victory over Houston Baptist. The effort marked her sixth double-figure total in the last seven outings.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi extended its victory parade to three-straight games, serving as the squad's longest stretch since the 2019-20 season. The Islanders held HBU to a conference season-low 43 points in the defensive battle.  

In the league standings, the Islanders rank third as a team in steals per game (10.4) and blocked shots (72) while individually Westbrook shines with the top spot of 9.2 boards per game.

Alecia Westbrook continues to be a powerhouse for the blue and green, tallied her eighth double-double of the season and 12th double-figure scoring game over Lamar. She was coming off a 15-point, 12-rebound performance in the win over New Orleans. Westbrook entered the game ranked second in the conference in rebounding (9.2 rpg) and will improve on her average.
