ARLINGTON, Texas – On day two of the UTA Invitational, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program was topped by Wichita State 5-4 and Missouri State 11-0 on Friday at Allan Saxe Field.

With two hits in each game, sophomore
Pal Egan has reached base safely in all 14 contests this year. She leads the team with a .324 average and .500 on-base percentage.

Freshman
Alexandria Torres knocked a hit in each game. She raised her batting average to .333 in eight games.
Â
All of A&M-Corpus Christi's (7-7) scoring came in the first inning of game one. An RBI single by Egan put the Islanders on the board, and a two RBI knock by Torres added-on. A&M-Corpus Christi also took advantage of a pair of errors by WSU (7-2) to lead 4-0.

Though, in the bottom half the Shockers trimmed the deficit to 4-2 on a two-run homer by Madison Perrigan. WSU took the lead in the second inning on a three-run shot by Addison Barnard to go up 5-4.

A&M-Corpus Christi had runners on in nearly every inning, but couldn't push another run across to even it. The Islanders outhit the Shockers 7-6 in the contest.

Freshman
Sydney Hoyt made her first start of the year in the circle but took the loss. Sophomores
Beatriz Lara and
Jenika Lombrana made appearances out of the bullpen and combined for one run allowed in 5.0 frames.

In game two, the Islanders were down 1-0 when the game got away in the third inning. MSU (7-4) cashed in with five runs in the third and later cemented it with five more runs in the fifth.

Freshman
Megan DePew pitched a scoreless inning in relief, recording three straight outs to get out of the fifth.

A&M-Corpus Christi will conclude the UTA Invitational on Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. game against No. 23 Iowa State
