Women’s Tennis Gets Set for SLC Matches against UCA, Lamar

TYLER, Texas – Continuing its conference schedule, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program will play a neutral court match against Central Arkansas at 11 a.m. Thursday at Faulkner Park Tennis Center, followed by a home match at 12 p.m. Saturday against Lamar at the Henry Tennis Center.
 
The Islanders (15-1, 5-0 SLC) are one of two teams that are still undefeated in the conference standings. They are looking to keep pace with Sam Houston (12-2, 7-0 SLC), which has one match this weekend against Stephen F. Austin (7-8, 2-6 SLC) on Saturday.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi is 80-7 (.920) in singles and 36-6 (.857) in doubles as a team.
 
Sophomore Mariya Shumeika is still undefeated in singles. She's a perfect 15-0, including a 12-0 mark at No. 2 and 3-0 at No. 1. Of her 15 wins, 14 have been in straight sets.
 
Freshmen Emma Honore, Emma Aucagne and Leopoldine Boisseau are all on seven-match winning-streaks at the No. 3, 4 and 5 spots, respectively.
 
In doubles, the team of Boisseau and Victoire Delattre have been tough to beat at No. 3 and carry a 10-1 record.
 
UCA (10-10, 5-2 SLC) has been tough in doubles. The top team of Fuka Nonoyama and Chunxi Xin are 6-0 in conference at No. 1. The Islanders are 14-2 all-time against the Sugar Bears, but UCA has won the last two meetings.
 
Lamar (7-5, 4-3 SLC) has had an up-and-down year. Nearly all of its matches have been close and four of the seven conference matches have come down to the final court in 4-3 decisions. A&M-Corpus Christi is 10-9 all-time against the Cardinals and have won seven of the last eight.
