CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball hosts its first Southland series of the season at Chapman Field as New Orleans comes to town for a four-game conference series, opening up on Thursday, April 1 with a 6 p.m. nightcap and spanning the next two days with a Friday (April 2) doubleheader starting at noon before concluding Sunday at 1 p.m.
Islander Notes
- Home runs have highlighted the Islanders' spring, as A&M-Corpus Christi shares the second-best total alongside Sam Houston with 16.
- Senior Luke Marbach had himself a career day in the series finale at Sam Houston, going a flawless 4-for-4 from the plate including a double and three singles that accounted for one run and 2BI. Over the series, Marbach launched seven hits including home runs in back-to-back games during Saturday's doubleheader that included a 12-6 Islander victory.
- The Islander offense exploded for a season-high 12 runs and 14 hits to claim a game-two, 12-6 victory over Sam Houston in Saturday's twin bill. Eight players registered a hit in the lopsided contest with Brendan Ryan and Tristan Welch each enjoying a 3-for-4 day.
- Jaime Ramirez provided 4.2 innings of relief to keep the Bearkats' bats in check, only allowing one run on four hits and striking out five to turn in his first winning performance of the season.
- Hayden Thomas' 3.34 ERA through six starts ranks among the top-10 in the Southland, with his 42 strikeouts being third best among league pitchers.
- Steven Rivera-Chijin has found base in 18-straight contests, the longest streak of any Islander this season, with eight of those via a hit by pitch that ties for second in conference.
- Three Islanders – Leo Markotic, Justin Taylor and Marbach – bring four-game hitting streaks into Tuesday's road test.
- Burts leads the Islanders with 20 hits and eight multi-hit games this season, but Marbach's offense-fueled weekend surpassed Burts for multi-RBI games with five.
- After a stellar showing at the Shriners College Classic, senior Mike Williams was tabbed to the All-Tournament team after he batted .375 over the three-game tournament and tallied a hit in all three contests including a monster two-RBI home run in the Saturday showing against Rice that afforded the Islanders an early 2-0 advantage. - In their first series of 2021, A&M-Corpus Christi's pitching contingent held the Chippewas to 23 scoreless frames over the three-game set, led by starter Henry Bird's 5.0 innings of hitless and scoreless ball that saw him fan four batters in a 5-1 rout in the mound victory.
- A&M-Corpus Christi head coach Scott Malone is in his 14th season at the helm of the Islanders and boasts a career record of 327-380-2 and 168-204-2 in Southland play.
- Luke Marbach collected Southland Hitter of the Week honors on Feb. 23 after belting five hits that included two doubles and a long ball that helped drive home four runs.
Scouting the Opponent
- The Privateers enter their fourth Southland series of the season touting a level 12-12 overall record and 7-5 league mark. UNO started the Southland portion 5-0 before ultimately dropping back-to-back series against Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian.
- UNO's Gaige Howard and Chris Turpin swept the Southland weekly awards for Hitter and Pitcher of the week honors on March 15 after Howard went 10-for-19 from the plate in the HBU series while Turpin threw the Privateers first nine-inning shutout since April 2017.
- Six different players have 20+ hits for the Privateers this season, with Gaige Howard leading the offensive charge with 28 while batting at a .308 clip.
- On the mound, Caleb Seroski and Collin Kulivan have been crucial in relief, as Seroski has turned in four wins and Kulivan has posted four saves.

- This will be the first meeting between the Islanders and Privateers in over three years, as the home club aims to break up a series skid stretching back to 2014.
