COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Despite a pair of defeats 7-0 and 9-2 to 24th-ranked Texas A&M, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program showed its glimpses Tuesday at Davis Diamond.

A&M-Corpus Christi (14-16, 5-4 SLC) kept the Aggies (25-5, 4-2 SEC) scoreless until the fifth inning of game one. Sophomore
Beatriz Lara had a shutout going until that point when Texas A&M was able to break through with six runs. The Islanders were out-hitting the Aggies 4-1 through four innings.

In game two, A&M-Corpus Christi knocked six hits including a homer by freshman
Haley Morse, who finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the contest.

With a hit in each game, sophomore
Ashleigh Sgambelluri extended her hitting streak to 11 games and her on-base streak to 15. She singled to left in the third inning of game one and singled to left again in the fifth inning of game two.

A multi-hit game came from freshman
Alexandria Torres. She went 2-for-2 in game one with a pair of infield singles. It was her third multi-hit game of the year.'

Back to game two, additional hits in the affair came from sophomore
Sammi Thomas, freshman
Sydney Hoyt and junior
Tiare Lee. Morse's homer came in the second inning on a solo shot to left field. She also added an RBI single down the left field line in the fifth to score Sgambelluri.

Three different pitchers saw action in the night cap. Freshman
Megan DePew made her first career start and lasted 1.2 innings. Freshman
Audrey McNeill saw 2.2 innings of work and Hoyt threw the final 1.2 frames.

A&M-Corpus Christi has now played six games against ranked opponents this year and one receiving votes.

The doubleheader kicked off a seven-game road trip. The Islanders will next travel to Incarnate Word for a three-game SLC series. Game one is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday.
