CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program couldn't get the bats going in a 9-0 defeat to McNeese on Saturday at Chapman Field.

A&M-Corpus Christi (14-14, 5-4 SLC) scattered three hits against the Cowgirls (14-18, 5-4 SLC). Sophomore
Ashleigh Sgambelluri extended her hitting streak to nine games and her on-base streak to 13 with a single to right in the fifth.

Freshman
Alie Alcantar reached on an infield single in the third and is now on an eight-game hitting streak. Freshman
Madison Johnson notched an infield single in the fourth in her first career start.

A&M-Corpus Christi's best scoring opportunity came in the fourth inning. With two outs, sophomore
Pal Egan walked and Johnson singled to put runners on first and third. Though, the Cowgirls were able to get out of it with a ground out to second.

McNeese saw Jenna Edwards pitch a complete-game shutout. The Cowgirls scored one in the first, two in the third, two in the fourth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh.

The Islanders will play a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday when they travel to Texas A&M for a 3 p.m. start.
