Islanders Continue Busy Stretch with Road Game at SFA

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Playing its third game in five days, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program will travel for a mid-week contest at Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi (3-13, 0-7 SLC) will look to even the season series against the Lumberjacks (11-3,-7-1 SLC) after falling 84-75 on Feb. 3. The Islanders were shorthanded in the contest and four of the five starters logged at least 35 minutes. Senior Myles Smith netted a season-high 23 points and was 9-for-15 from the floor and 3-of-6 from long-range.
 
Smith has started to heat up as of late and leads the team in scoring in conference games with 13.3 points per outing.
 
In the team's last game against Abilene Christian, junior Simeon Fryer turned in a career outing with 29 points. He was 8-of-11 from the floor, 3-for-6 from three-point range and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. It was the second time he scored over 20 points this year as he tallied 20 points against Sam Houston on Jan. 27.
 
Sophomore Jalen White is the team's leading scorer with 10.6 points per game. He's second in rebounding with 5.4 per outing. White has a pair of double-doubles on the year.
 
Senior Nolan Bertain ranks third in the conference in three-point percentage (.418). Hes made at least three long-range shots in seven games this year.
 
Junior De'Lazarus Keys is the team's leading rebounder with 6.7 per game. Keys, who missed the entire non-conference slate due to injury, also puts in 7.6 points per outing.
 
Senior Perry Francois ranks third in the SLC in blocks with 1.4 per game. He averages 9.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game to round-out the team's balanced scoring attack.
 
SFA hasn't played a game since the first meeting between the two teams this year. It was supposed to travel to New Orleans on Saturday but the game was postponed.
 
Cameron Johnson averages 18.2 points per game and shoots .468 from three-point range. He posted 29 points and six rebounds against the Islanders in Corpus Christi. Gavin Kensmil is second on the team in scoring with 13.9 points per outing and scored 16 against A&M-Corpus Christi.
 
NOTES
- The Islanders have won their last two road games at SFA. They won 73-72 last year and 65-55 in 2018-19.
 
- The Islanders have been plagued by postponements all season. They've had six conference games postponed to different dates. Prior to conference play beginning, the Islanders went 22 days between games due to postponements. They had their final two non-conference games canceled and first three SLC matches rescheduled.
 
- As part of a social inclusion movement committed to bringing forth change, the Islanders will wore t-shirts that will read ERACISM on the front and THIS GAME IS NO SECRET on the back in the warm up session and on the bench in their home game against Incarnate Word. It was part of ERACISM, which stands for Equality, Reconciliation, Action - Coaches Social Inclusion Movement. The goal is to create education, awareness and action with current and former college basketball coaches leading the way.
 
- Head coach Willis Wilson carries a 90-77 record against Southland Conference opponents. He's won 141 games overall since arriving at The Island University and is the program's career leader in coaching victories.
