EDINBURG, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis programs will hit the road Tuesday for matches at UTRGV in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union beginning at 12 p.m. at the Orville I. Cox Tennis Center.
The showdown, an all-sports competition between A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV, is presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. As an institution, the Islanders lead the series 3-1. UTRGV currently leads this year's standings 5-3, but the Islanders could tie it up Tuesday if both men's and women's tennis pick up wins.
"We love the South Texas Showdown. It's a great rivalry! It makes the match extra intense and extra special and I think our players love that. I think that's what they work so hard for," said head coach
Steve Moore. "UTRGV is always tough and very challenging to play in Edinburg. We have to be very committed to our process of playing every point with intensity and keeping our mindset on competing like a warrior rather than results and outcome. The trip down there is always bonding and unifying for our team, so we're excited about tomorrow."
The men are off to a 9-1 start. They fell to No. 5 Texas in their last outing but kept matches close on nearly every court.

Carlos Berna Ruiz is a perfect 7-0 in singles. He's played all over the lineup and split sets at No. 5 singles against Texas in an unfinished match. Ruiz is also 7-1 in doubles with freshman
