Soccer Drops Road Tilt at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program fell 2-0 in its first road game of the season to UTSA on Sunday at the Park West Athletics Complex.

The Islanders (0-2) registered four shots in the contest from seniors Alana Mangan, Celia Hilsabeck, Kayla Gove and sophomore Emma Gibbs.

"We learned today how physical Division I soccer can be. We will be ready if we ever see anything like that again," said head coach Craig Shaw.

Mangan and freshman Emma Herrera logged 90 minutes for the second consecutive game.

Freshman Kennedy Stelling made her second consecutive start in net and blocked three saves.

UTSA (1-0) got on the board in the 13th minute on an own goal and carried a 1-0 lead into the break. The Roadrunners added an insurance tally in the 66th minute on a score by Ariana Gomez.

The Islanders are now 2-3 all-time against the Roadrunners and 1-2 on the road. The two teams will rematch in Corpus Christi on Sunday, March 14 at 1 p.m.

Up next, A&M-Corpus Christi will travel to UTRGV for a rematch at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. The Vaqueros snuck past the Islanders 2-1 in overtime in the first meeting this year.
