EDINBURG, Texas – A hard-fought defensive battle ended in a 0-0 tie after two overtimes for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program at UTRGV on Wednesday night at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.

The game was part of the South Texas Showdown, an all-sports competition between A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. As an institution, the Islanders lead the series 3-1. This year's standings are tied 17.5-17.5.

"It was definitely an improvement in certain areas from the last game. We fought and worked very hard and that is something I'm excited to have seen as I can work with that," said head coach
Craig Shaw.

Kennedy Stelling registered a shutout in net. After 110 minutes, she tallied seven saves.

The Islanders (0-2-1) recorded four shots in the game, including a pair on goal from senor
Abby Deakin and sophomore
Maddie Janolo.

Alana Mangan logged 110 minutes on the backline. She's played in every minute so far this year.

UTRGV (2-0-1) saw Mari Liis Lillemae take five shots. Maile Lunardi notched a shutout in net.

It was the only game of the week for the Islanders since their game Friday at Abilene Christian was postponed to March 5. A&M-Corpus Christi will next take the pitch on Friday, Feb. 19 when it hosts Northwestern State in its conference opener at 7 p.m.
