CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball hopes to keep momentum going as the Islanders make a Southland stop at Incarnate Word Saturday, Feb. 27 with tipoff set for 4 p.m.
A&M-Corpus Christi outscored the Privateers 37-23 in a back-breaking second half that lifted the Islanders to their second Southland win and complete the season sweep at New Orleans. Three Islanders –
Alecia Westbrook,
Hayle Campbell, and
Makinna Serrata – recorded double-figure totals while the defense limited UNO to a pair of nine-point frames.
Despite the extended break, the Islanders maintain top marks with a 17
th overall national ranking in steals per game (11.1) and place third amongst conference members in blocked shots (58) and blocked shots per game (4.1).
Alecia Westbrook continues to be a powerhouse for the blue and green, leading in scoring (189/12.6 ppg) and rebounding (139/9.3 rpg). She collected her seventh double double of the season behind a 15 point and 12 rebound effort to pace the Islander offense and defense in the season sweep of New Orleans.
After being postponed four times, the Islanders and Cardinals will finally meet for the first time this season with A&M-Corpus Christi holding the lopsided 12-2 series advantage.
