Islanders Return Home to Host Lamar at American Bank Center on ESPN+

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
As part of a doubleheader, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program will host Lamar at 4 p.m. at the American Bank Center on Saturday.
 
It follows the women's game against Lamar at 1 p.m.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi (3-15, 0-9 SLC) has used a balanced scoring attack this year. Seven Islanders average at least 7.8 points per game. Sophomore Jalen White leads the way with 9.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per outing.
 
Senior Nolan Bertain ranks third in the Southland Conference in three-point percentage (.412). He's made at least three long-range shots in seven games this year.
 
In conference games, A&M-Corpus Christi has been led by senior Myles Smith's 11.9 points per game. He missed the team's last game at Abilene Christian due to injury.
 
Junior De'Lazarus Keys is the team's leading rebounder with 6.1 per game. Keys, who missed the entire non-conference slate due to injury, also puts in 7.8 points per outing. He's coming off a career-high 15 points at ACU.
 
Senior Perry Francois ranks third in the SLC in blocks with 1.2 per game. He averages 8.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game and is shooting a team-high .612 from the field, including .575 in conference. Francois is 10-for-12 (.833) from the field over the last three games.
 
Lamar (4-15, 2-8 SLC) is on a four-game skid. It fell to Houston Baptist last Saturday 80-75 on the road. The Cardinals are 1-10 on the road this year.
 
The Cardinals rely heavily on their starters for offense. They average 64.2 points per game as a team and 57.7 per game from the starters. Davion Buster leads the way with 15.1 points per game, while Avery Sullivan averages 10.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
 
Saturday will tip-off a three-game home stand for the Islanders who will also host Southeastern Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. Monday and New Orleans at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the American Bank Center.
 
NOTES
- A&M-Corpus Christi and Lamar will meet for the first time this year. The two programs split last year's meetings with each team winning at home. The Islanders won 64-58 on Jan. 18, 2020 at the American Bank Center as sophomore Jordan Hairston dropped 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
 
- Seven different Islanders have scored 20 points in a game this year. Most recently, junior Kerry Richardson submitted a career-high 20 points at Stephen F. Austin and broke the school record for single-game field goal percentage with an 8-for-8 mark.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 201-99 all-time at home and 133-72 in the American Bank Center.
 
- Head coach Willis Wilson is in his 10th season at the helm and returned his entire coaching staff. He carries a 90-79 record against Southland Conference opponents. Wilson has won 141 games overall since arriving at The Island University and is the program's career leader in coaching victories.
