Islanders Look to Heat Up Saturday at ACU

ABILENE, Texas –
On what's expected to be a cold day outside at Abilene Christian, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program will look to heat it up inside the Teague Center on Saturday when they tip-off at 4 p.m.
 
The Islanders (3-14, 0-8 SLC) are coming off one of their best shooting performances Wednesday when they went 26-of-47 (.553) from the field, their highest mark in conference this year. The outing was highlighted by 53 points from the bench.
 
Junior Kerry Richardson netted a career-high 20 points and broke the school record for single-game field goal percentage with an 8-for-8 mark. A career-high also came from freshman Eden Davis as he recorded 11 points.
 
Sophomore Jalen White is the team's leading scorer with 10.3 points per game. He's second in rebounding with 5.2 per outing. White has a pair of double-doubles on the year.
 
Senior Nolan Bertain ranks third in the conference in three-point percentage (.413). He's made at least three long-range shots in seven games this year.
 
In conference games, A&M-Corpus Christi has been led by senior Myles Smith and junior Simeon Fryer. Smith averages 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, while Fryer scores 11.3 per outing.
 
ACU (17-3, 9-1 SLC) is riding a six-game winning-streak and is 10-0 at home this year. The Wildcats are coming off a lopsided 88-59 home victory over Houston Baptist on Wednesday.
 
The Wildcats lead the league in scoring defense and limit teams to 59.3 points per game. Kolton Kohl, a 7-0 center, averages a team-high 11.7 points per game and shoots .545 from the field.
 
NOTES
A&M-Corpus Christi is 9-5 all-time against Abilene Christian, including a 5-2 mark on the road. Though, the Islanders will look to avenge an 82-69 defeat in the first meeting this year where junior Simeon Fryer poured in a career-high 29 points.
 
- Seven different Islanders have scored 20 points in a game this year.
 
- The Islanders have been plagued by postponements all season. They've had six conference games postponed to different dates. Prior to conference play beginning, the Islanders went 22 days between games due to postponements. They had their final two non-conference games canceled and first three SLC matches rescheduled.
 
- As part of a social inclusion movement committed to bringing forth change, the Islanders will wore t-shirts that will read ERACISM on the front and THIS GAME IS NO SECRET on the back in the warm up session and on the bench in their home game against Incarnate Word. It was part of ERACISM, which stands for Equality, Reconciliation, Action - Coaches Social Inclusion Movement. The goal is to create education, awareness and action with current and former college basketball coaches leading the way.
 
- Head coach Willis carries a 90-78 record against Southland Conference opponents. He's won 141 games overall since arriving at The Island University and is the program's career leader in coaching victories.
