Islanders Freeze Dustdevils 4-0

Box Score LAREDO, Texas – On a frigid Saturday at the Dustdevil Soccer Field, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program got hot offensively and submitted a 4-0 shutout over Texas A&M-International.

It was the second consecutive shutout for the Islanders (1-2-1), who have gone 224 minutes without conceding a goal.

"We started to see a lot of what we have been working on taking shape and we were able to get an extra look at some players before conference play next week," said head coach Craig Shaw.

A&M-Corpus Christi got on the board in the 10th minute on freshman Maggie Murray's second goal of the season. It was assisted by sophomore Samantha Palomino.

Just three minutes later, the Islanders posted another tally on a goal by freshman Olivia Alvarez, assisted by Murray to make it 2-0.

In the second half, Alvarez tacked-on her second of the game after a pass from senior Abby Deakin in the 50th minute.

A&M-Corpus Christi finished it off with a late goal from Deakin in the 88th minute to increase the advantage to 4-0.

Senior goalkeeper Kyleigh Hall, a Preseason All-Conference First-Team selection, made her first appearance in net and recorded a shutout.

It was the first-ever meeting between the Islanders and the Dustdevils (0-1).

A&M-Corpus Christi will next take the pitch on Friday, Feb. 19 when it hosts Northwestern State in its conference opener at 7 p.m.
