CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Racing out to a 30-point lead near the midway point of the first half, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program won its sixth straight game with a 111-60 victory over Southwestern University on Saturday in the American Bank Center.

The 51-point margin of victory was the program's largest since 2005-06 when A&M-Corpus Christi (7-1) beat Texas A&M-International by 58.

The Islanders garnered seven double-figure scorers in a game for the first time in school history. It included junior
Trevian Tennyson (15), freshman
Jordan Roberts (15), sophomore
Stephen Faramade (14), junior
Isaac Mushila (13), senior
Simeon Fryer (13), junior
Jalen Jackson (12) and junior
Tyrese Nickelson (10).

All 10 student-athletes that participated for A&M-Corpus Christi made at least one field goal.

Nickelson pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and Jackson dished out a game-high six assists. The Islanders outrebounded the Pirates 42-27 and posted a positive turnover margin of 21-11.

A&M-Corpus Christi shot .603 (41-68) from the field and held Southwestern to a .373 (22-59) mark.

The Pirates were led by Chris Smith's 16 points and Kyle Poerschke's 13. Smith was 4-of-9 from long range.

Southwestern's only lead in the game came after its first possession to go up 3-2. The Islanders responded with a 13-0 run, which was started by a lay-up by senior
De'Lazarus Keys and capped by a jumper by Tennyson to lead 15-3 at the 16:29 mark.

A second chance bucket by Faramade increased it to 27-7, and a three-pointer by Roberts upped it to 32-7 with 11:52 left. A pair of free throws by Nickelson made it a 39-9 game at the 9:29 mark.

In the second half, an old-fashion three-point play by Roberts had A&M-Corpus Christi up 76-41 with 14:09 to go. A fast-break lay-up by Nickelson kept it going with an 85-45 advantage with 11:30 remaining. The largest lead of the game came on the very last basket as Nickelson hit another to lead by 51.

The Islanders will play another game in the American Bank Center on Wednesday when it hosts UTRGV at 7 p.m. in a South Texas Showdown rematch, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. A&M-Corpus Christi won the first meeting this year 83-77 on the road.

- The Islanders are off to a 7-1 start for the first time since 2004-05.

- A&M-Corpus Christi has already surpassed its win total from last season by two games.

- The Islanders posted a big 27-2 edge in transition and have outscored the opposition in fast break points in all eight games this year. They are also 7-0 when outscoring the opposition off the bench, where they held a 50-21 advantage.

- A&M-Corpus Christi entered the game leading the Southland Conference in field goal percentage (.477) and were way above par with a .603 clip.

- Roberts netted a career-high 15 points, which surpassed the 14 he had against Texas Lutheran in the season-opener. Roberts was 5-of-10 from the floor and drilled a pair of threes.

- Tennyson was 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond-the-arc for his second double-figure scoring game of the year.

- Faramade tallied a career-high 14 points, which were the most since his 10 against TLU in the opener. Faramade was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and swatted a pair of blocks.

- Mushila registered his sixth consecutive double-figure scoring performance. He's secured at least five rebounds in every game this season.

- Fryer etched his ninth career double-figure scoring game and second of the year. He was 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-6 from distance.

- Jackson recorded his third double-digit scoring affair and matched his career-high with six assists. He was 4-of-6 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free throw line.

- Nickelson's 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists were all career-bests.

- Saturday was the first-ever meeting between A&M-Corpus Christi and Southwestern.
