Men’s Basketball Concludes 2021 with Game against Sul Ross State in Dugan Wellness Center

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
On the final day of 2021, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program hosts Sul Ross State at 12 p.m. Friday in the Dugan Wellness Center.

Friday will be Dollar Day and tickets are just $1. The special pricing is available at the door or by calling (361) 825-BALL.
 
It's the first game in nine days for A&M-Corpus Christi (10-3), which took the holidays off from competition. In its last outing at Notre Dame on Dec. 22, the Islanders led as late as the 11:26 mark of the second half and held an edge in several statistical categories including points in the paint (26-18), fast break points (7-4) and bench scoring (27-14).
 
The Islanders rank top-five in nation in turnovers forced per game with 19.62. They are also top-10 in turnover margin (+6.2). A&M-Corpus Christi has had 11 different student-athletes record double-figures in a game, which is the second-most in the nation. Only Bowling Green has had more with 13.
 
Junior Isaac Mushila has won two Southland Conference Player of the Week awards this season and ranks fourth in the nation in free throw attempts (80) and seventh in free throws made (60). He averages 14.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per outing and has four double-doubles on the year. Mushila, who did not start until the fifth game, has scored over 20 points three times.
 
Along with Mushila, junior Trevian Tennyson averages in double-figures with 11.8 points per game. He's coming off 18 points at Notre Dame and a season-high 19 points against Lamar where he was 5-of-10 from long range, including 4-of-6 in the second half. Tennyson has hit a three-pointer in every game this year and is second in the SLC in 3FG made per game (2.2)
 
Senior Simeon Fryer averages 9.2 points per game and is shooting .452 (19-42) from three-point range. He has more-than doubled his three-point percentage from last year (.224).
 
Junior Terrion Murdix ranks second the league in both assists (3.9 apg) and assist:turnover ratio (1.9) and is third in steals (1.8 spg). He scored a career-high 19 points at Omaha and 18 at Minnesota.
 
As a team, the Islanders lead the conference in assists (16.23 apg), steals (10.31 spg), turnover margin (+6.15) and assist:turnover ratio (1.21). A&M-Corpus Christi has seven student-athletes who score at least 7.3 points per game.
 
Sul Ross State carries a 5-7 record and is coming off a 71-58 win over Millsaps. Julian Paredes averages team-highs of 13.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. The Lobos compete at the NCAA Division III level and are members of the American Southwest Conference.

NOTES
- The Islanders are 2-0 all-time against the Lobos with a 93-59 win in 2001-02 and 80-56 in 2000-01.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 207-101 all-time at home and are 5-0 at home this year.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi's 10 wins are the most its ever won prior to conference play beginning since joining a league in 2006-07 (the program competed as an Independent prior to joining the Southland Conference). The Islanders got off to their best start in program history with a 10-2 record after 12 games.
 
- The Islanders have already doubled their win total from last season when they finished 5-19 overall.
 
- The Islanders carry an RPI of 134 out of 358 teams, which is the highest in the Southland Conference. The next closest school in the league is Nicholls at 175.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is receiving votes in the CollegeInsider Mid Major Top-25 Poll.
