Islanders Prep for Road Game at Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. –
Having won nine of its last 10 games, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program journeys up north to play Notre Dame at 12 p.m. (CT) Wednesday at Purcell Pavilion.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi is off to its best start in school history with a 10-2 record. The 10 wins are the most its ever won prior to conference play beginning since joining a league in 2006-07 (the program competed as an Independent prior to joining the Southland Conference).
 
The Islanders have already doubled their win total from last season when they finished 5-19 overall.
 
Junior Isaac Mushila has won two Southland Conference Player of the Week awards this season and ranks fourth in the nation in free throw attempts (78) and seventh in free throws made (59). He averages 14.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per outing and has four double-doubles on the year. Mushila, who did not start until the fifth game, has scored over 20 points three times.
 
Along with Mushila, junior Trevian Tennyson averages in double-figures with 11.3 points per game. He's coming off a season-high 19 points against Lamar where he was 5-of-10 from long range, including 4-of-6 in the second half. Tennyson has hit a three-pointer in every game this year.
 
Senior Simeon Fryer averages 9.6 points per game and is shooting .462 (18-39) from three-point range. He has more-than doubled his three-point percentage from last year (.224).
 
Junior Terrion Murdix leads the league in assist:turnover ratio (2.0) and is second in assists (3.9 apg). He scored a career-high 19 points at Omaha and 18 at Minnesota.
 
Notre Dame (5-5) posted a lopsided 85-52 win last night against Western Michigan. The Fighting Irish have a notable 66-62 win over No. 10 Kentucky on their resume and are 4-0 at home this year.
 
Notre Dame limits the opposition to just 64.5 points per game. Dane Goodwin averages a team-high 14.7 points per game and shoots .438 (21-48) from three-point range and .917 (22-24) from the free throw line.
 
The game can be watched with a subscription on ESPN+ or heard on 1440 AM K-E-Y-S with Steven King on the call.
 

NOTES
- Wednesday will be the first-ever meeting between A&M-Corpus Christi and Notre Dame. The last time (and only time) the Islanders beat an ACC school was Nov. 22, 2004 against Florida State 70-67.
 
- The Islanders are seeking their first win over a Power Five institution since 2009-10 when they beat Oregon State 67-43. The most notable matchup was the 2007 NCAA Tournament against Wisconsin when the 15th-seeded Islanders led 24-7 with 5:29 left in the first half and 27-19 at the intermission. Though, the Badgers came back to take a 76-63 decision.
 
- As a team, A&M-Corpus Christi leads the conference in assists (16.42 apg), steals (10.42 spg), turnover margin (+6.67) and assist:turnover ratio (1.2).
 
- The Islanders rank fourth in the nation in turnovers forced per game with 20.08. They are also sixth in turnover margin (+6.7), eighth in free throws made (195), 10th in free throw attempts (267) and 14th in steals per game (10.4).
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is receiving 25 votes in the CollegeInsider Mid Major Top-25 Poll.
 
- The Islanders carry a net ranking of 156, with a peak of 132 on the year out of 358 Division I institutions. They are the second-highest ranked team in the Southland Conference behind Nicholls at 124, and are 129 spots ahead of the third-place squad New Orleans at 285.
 
- The Islanders have not been outscored in fast break points yet this season.
