CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball program posted a lopsided 83-45 victory over Schreiner on Friday evening in the Dugan Wellness Center.
A&M-Corpus Christi (5-5) improved to 5-0 at home this year.
The Islanders held a large advantage in several statistical categories including a 55-31 edge in rebounding and 62-26 in points in the paint. A&M-Corpus Christi grabbed 17 steals and held the Mountaineers to a .281 (16-57) shooting percentage.
A&M-Corpus Christi registered season-highs in field goals made (35), rebounds (55), assists (22) and blocks (12).
Junior
Alecia Westbrook stood out with 17 points, a career-high 16 rebounds and four blocks. She was 8-of-13 from the floor and nine of her 16 rebounds were offensive.

Paige Allen notched a season-high 16 points and five steals, senior
Makinna Serrata netted 15 points and sophomore
Nabaweeyah McGill recorded 11 points, six rebounds and a whopping six blocks.
Schreiner was led by Aazayleah Pirtle's 10 points. The Mountaineers spread their scoring around as 10 different student-athletes tallied a field goal.
The Mountaineers scored the first six points of the game on a pair of three-pointers when the Islanders answered with a 7-0 run, started by a lay-in by Serrata. After Schreiner tied it 9-9, Serrata and Westbrook made baskets to go up 13-9 with 2:30 left and A&M-Corpus Christi never trailed again. A jumper by Allen extended it to 19-11 at the end of the first.
The Islanders created separation in the second as a lay-up and three-pointer by freshman
Annukka Willstedt made it a 28-13 game. A bucket by McGill bumped it up to 34-17 with 2:13 remaining, and a fast break lay-up by junior
Olivia Dowden gave them a 36-18 lead at the intermission.
A&M-Corpus Christi used an 8-0 run in the third to catapult ahead 53-24 after a lay-up by Allen with 4:38 to go. A fast break lay-up by sophomore
Violeta Verano put the Islanders up 61-28 late in the quarter.
The largest lead of the game came in the final minute as an inside basket by McGill increased the edge to 83-42.
The Islanders will look to win another Tuesday when they travel to Houston for a 1 p.m. tip on ESPN+.
NOTES
- A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 4-0 all-time against Schreiner.
- The Islanders have outscored the opposition 401-241 at home this year. The program is now 206-144 all-time at home and 52-28 in the Dugan Wellness Center.
- The Islanders entered the game rank 13th in the nation in steals per game with 12.8. Their average will go up after 17 steals in the contest.
- A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 5-0 when leading at half. The Islanders have been up at the intermission in every home game this year. They are also undefeated when they outrebound the opposition.
- Westbrook came one offensive rebound shy of the school record of 10 set twice, the last by Jackie Ododa against Houston on Feb. 1, 2005. She etched her fourth double-double of the season and 12th of her career. Westbrook surpassed her previous career-high of 15 rebounds set twice this year against St. Thomas and Pacific.
- Allen topped her previous season-high of 15 points set at Denver. She was four points shy of her career-high of 21 against Concordia last year. Allen turned in her 14th career double-figure scoring game and fourth this season. She grabbed five steals for the fifth time on her career and third time this year.
- Serrata submitted her 18th career double-figure scoring game, seventh this year and fourth in a row. She was 7-of-13 from the floor.
- McGill netted her sixth career double-digit scoring affair and fourth this season. She stood her ground defensively with six blocks, which are the most by an Islander in a game this year. McGill was one point shy of her career-high.
