CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball program will be tested early and often in the 2022 season as it released its schedule Friday.
Â
The schedule includes eight games against Power Five Conference opponents with four of them at home against Texas twice, Iowa and Texas A&M. The Islanders will also travel to TCU and a three-game series at Nebraska.
Â
"The schedule is as challenging as any I have put together in 15 years as the islanders head coach," said head coach
Scott Malone. "Two home dates with the University of Texas, plus a third Whataburger night game with Texas A&M. These three single games are for our fans - three outstanding opportunities to watch college baseball at the highest level and root for the blue and green."
Â
The first game against Texas on Feb. 22 will be the home opener at Whataburger Field. It will begin a season long 10-game home stand, which also includes the Kleberg Classic at Whataburger Field and a home series against former Southland Conference foe Stephen F. Austin at Chapman Field.
"The Kleberg Classic field has another best of the best feel as well. Iowa from the Big Ten is joined by mid-major powers Wichita State and Pepperdine," Malone said. "South Texas baseball fans will have everything they want - right here in Corpus Christi."
Â
The season begins Feb. 18 with a three-game series at UT Arlington. After the 10-game home stand from Feb. 22-March 6, the Islanders will travel for the South Texas Showdown against UTRGV on March 8. A&M-Corpus Christi will also host the Vaqueros on April 27 and May 4.
Â
Other non-conference opponents include Prairie View A&M, Tarleton State and Rice. A&M-Corpus Christi will play a 24-game SLC schedule with four home series and four away.Â
Â
The SLC Tournament will take-on a new format this year over two weekends from May 19-28.
