Unbeaten at Home, Women’s Basketball Hosts Schreiner in Dugan Wellness Center

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – With a 4-0 record in the Dugan Wellness Center, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball program will welcome Schreiner at 7 p.m. Friday.
 
After the game, there will be a post-game autograph session with all student-athletes.

The Islanders (4-5) have outscored the opposition 318-196 at home this year. The program is 205-144 all-time at home and 51-28 in the Dugan Wellness Center.
 
In their last home game, the Islanders turned in a lopsided 92-40 win over St. Edward's. They shot 60 percent from the floor for the first time since March 12, 2008 against Texas State. The 52-point win was the program's largest margin of victory since Dec. 30, 2014 when it beat Huston-Tillotson 99-33.
 
Junior Alecia Westbrook averages a double-double of 12.6 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. She leads the league in rebounding and ranks third in steals (2.6 spg). Westbrook was named to the Denver All-Tournament team for her performances against Denver and Tulane and went on to win SLC Player of the Week.
 
Senior Makinna Serrata is the team's leading scorer with 13.2 points per outing. She poured in a career-high 28 points to lead the team to an 81-61 victory over Pacific. It was her second 20-plus scoring game of the season along with a game vs. UTRGV at home.
 
Freshman Annukka Willstedt puts in 9.4 points per game and notched 25 points against Tulane on 7-of-8 3FGs. Willstedt leads the league in field goal percentage (.563) and is the team's leading three-point shooter with a .480 clip.
 
Sophomore Violeta Verano ranks first in the conference in assists (4.8 apg) and is second in assist:turnover ratio (1.1). Verano has dished out at least a pair of assists in every game this year and distributed a career-high seven at Rice.
 
Schreiner will play its first Division I opponent of the year. The Mountaineers are 3-6 overall and compete at the NCAA Division III level in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

NOTES
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 3-0 all-time against Schreiner. The average score of those games were 87.0-45.3. The last meeting was a 64-34 final in 2018-19.
 
- The Islanders rank 13th in the nation in steals per game with 12.8 per game. They grabbed a season-high 20 against St. Edward's and 15 at Rice.
 
- In addition to steals, A&M-Corpus Christi ranks first in the Southland Conference in assists (15.2 apg) and turnover margin (+4.2).
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi split a pair of meetings against UTRGV in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. Each team won at home. In the Islanders victory, they scored the first 13 points of the game and the lead was never in doubt the rest of the way.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 4-0 when leading at half. The Islanders have been up at the intermission in every home game this year. They are also undefeated when they outrebound the opposition.
