OMAHA, Neb. – Off to its best start in program history, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team will look to keep rolling Saturday when it travels to Omaha for a 7 p.m. tip at Baxter Arena.

A&M-Corpus Christi (8-1) is riding a seven-game winning-streak. The previous best start in school history was 7-1 in 2004-05.

The Islanders have already surpassed last season's win total by three games.

A&M-Corpus Christi ranks 18th in the nation in turnovers forced per game (18.22), 21st in assists per game (17.3) and 23rd in steals per game (9.9). In addition to those categories, the Islanders lead the Southland Conference in field goal percentage (.482) and rebounding margin (+7.2).

The Islanders swept rival UTRGV in a pair of meetings in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. Junior
Isaac Mushila registered a double-double in both contests with 28 points and 11 rebounds on the road, and 27 points and 14 rebounds at home. The Islanders erased a seven-point halftime deficit to win at home.

Mushila is the reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week winner, his second of the season. The Lubumbashi, Congo native averaged 20.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in victories over UTRGV and Southwestern.

A&M-Corpus Christi has used a balanced scoring attack this year and has seven student-athletes who average at least 7.2 points per game.

Junior
Terrion Murdix ranks first in the conference in assists (4.2 apg) and assist:turnover ratio (2.1). In the first meeting against UTRGV, he netted a career-high 14 points and was 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Omaha (1-8) opened the season with a 67-57 win over Hastings but is looking to snap an eight-game skid. Most recently, the Mavs fell to Drake 78-70 after leading 37-27 at half. Like A&M-Corpus Christi, Omaha's scoring is very balanced with Nick Ferrarini leading the way with 10.0 points per outing.

- The first 2021-22 NET Ranking came out Monday and the Islanders were ranked 132 out of 358 Division I institutions. A&M-Corpus Christi was the highest ranked team in the Southland Conference by 32 spots over Nicholls and 142 spots ahead of the third-highest team New Orleans.

- Mushila nearly averages a double-double with 16.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game on the season. He ranks first in the Southland Conference in field goal percentage (.653) and rebounding. His first SLC Player of the Week award came on Nov. 22 after he was named to the UTSA All-Tournament Team along with senior
De'Lazarus Keys. Mushila became the first Islander to win SLC Player of the Week since Feb. 20, 2017.
