CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Looking to go undefeated over its three-game home stand in the Dugan Wellness Center, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball program will host Pacific at 7 p.m. Monday.
The Islanders (2-1) started off the home stretch with a 66-57 win over UTRGV and followed it up with a 79-38 victory over St. Thomas.
In the win over the Celts, they raced out to a 20-3 led in the first quarter and 45-15 at half. Freshman
Annukka Willstedt had a breakout game with a season-high 16 points to lead all scorers. Junior
Alecia Westbrook pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds.
Willstedt leads the SLC in field goal percentage with a .591 mark. She's one of three Islanders ranked first in the league in a statistical category as Westbrook is No. 1 in defensive rebounds (8.7 drpg) and sophomore
Violeta Verano is first in assists (5.0 apg).
The Islanders have used a balanced scoring attack thus far, but senior
Makinna Serrata is the team's leading scorer with 12.3 points per game. Westbrook averages in double-figures in rebounding with 12.0 per outing.
Prior to St. Thomas, A&M-Corpus Christi notched a big rivalry win 66-57 over UTRGV at home in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. A&M-Corpus Christi scored the first 13 points of the game and the lead was never in doubt the rest of the way. Serrata netted a career-high 20 points, while sophomore
Nabaweeyah McGill tallied 11 points.
Pacific is off to a 2-2 start with wins over William Jessup 83-33 and CSU Bakersfield 78-65, but defeats to UC Riverside 75-65 and San Jose State 71-60. The Tigers were 11-11 (9-9 WCC) last season.

NOTES
- It will be the first-ever meeting between the Islanders and the Tigers. A&M-Corpus Christi is 2-0 all-time against teams currently in the West Coast Conference after topping Portland 64-63 on Nov. 24, 2003 and St. Mary's 96-79 on Dec. 16, 2006.
- With a win, A&M-Corpus Christi's 3-1 record would be its best start since 2009-10.
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 203-144 all-time at home and 49-28 in the Dugan Wellness Center.
- The Islanders have used three different starting lineups in three games this year.
- A&M-Corpus Christi is only in its 23rd season of basketball. The Islanders were the 2020 SLC champions, finishing the year 23-7 overall and 17-3 SLC. The conference tournament was canceled due to COVID-19, but the Islanders were the top seed. The 17-3 SLC record was the best-ever in program history.
