Nate White to Attend NCAA Leadership Forum

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Sophomore Nate White from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball program will be one of two student-athletes from the Southland Conference to participate in the 2021 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum on Nov. 18-21 in Houston.

The NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum is an opportunity for college athletes, coaches and administrators to collectively learn about themselves and grow as the next generation of leaders. Created in 1997, the event has served as a life-changing experience for more than 5,000 student-athletes who have grown personally and professionally as a result of their attendance. This year's event will be moderated by Southland Deputy Commissioner Chris Grant.

White is an infielder for the Islanders baseball team. An active member of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi SAAC that participates in nearly 20 events each year, White was part of the inaugural class of the Conni & Jay Wise Islanders L.earn, E.ngage, A.pply, D.o or L.E.A.D. program.  The purpose of this program is to equip a select group of student-athletes with the skills to be effective leaders among their peers, facilitate personal and team success and help one another accomplish their goals. The Arlington, Texas, native has also been recognized on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of his four semesters at A&M-Corpus Christi, twice earning a 4.0.

"Nate White is the perfect student–athlete. He is what every coach wants – a player that you never have to worry about. Nate always takes care of his grades and makes class work look easy," said head coach Scott Malone. "Nate is a quiet leader on the field. He has the perfect temperament – you can never tell if he got three hits or had a bad game, and he is always a team first player. We are super proud that Nate is representing Islanders baseball and the entire Southland Conference."

Student-athletes selected to attend the forum return to campus with invaluable leadership skills, a refined understanding of the relationship among personal values, core beliefs and behavioral styles, and the support of a close personal network of like-minded peers to provide continued connection and dialogue after the program concludes. This best-in-class programming experience serves as a transformational opportunity for student-athletes and administrators to build a leadership toolkit and develop vital self-awareness that allows them to realize their potential.
