BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas –
After tipping off the season on a high note at home, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will go for a big win on the road when it travels to Texas A&M for a 2 p.m. game Sunday at Reed Arena.

It could also potentially be a historic day for senior Myles Smith who is 12 points away from reaching 1,000 in his career.

A&M-Corpus Christi (1-0) thumped Texas Lutheran on opening day 102-64 at the American Bank Center to begin the Steve Lutz Era. The Islanders shot .500 (10-20) from three-point range, which is the highest percentage a Southland Conference team has shot in a game so far this season.

Junior Trevian Tennyson was red-hot off the bench against the Bulldogs and led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting. He was one of five student-athletes from A&M-Corpus Christi to score in double-figures.

All 12 student-athletes that got in the game made at least one field goal. The Islanders dished out 30 assists for the first time since Feb. 22, 2006 when they distributed a school record 34 against Huston-Tillotson.

The Aggies (2-0) opened the season with a 64-46 win over North Florida before surviving Abilene Christian 81-80 in double overtime on a last-second three-pointer by Hassan Diarra.

Quenton Jackson averaged 10.4 points per game last year as the highest scorer to return. This year, Henry Coleman III, a transfer from Duke, leads the way with 18.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.

The game can be watched on ESPN+ with Will Johnson and Tap Bentz on the call. It can also be heard live for free on the Islanders Digital Network with Steven King as the voice.

NOTES
- A&M-Corpus Christi is going for its second-ever win against the Aggies. The first came in the initial meeting on Dec. 13, 2003 in an 82-80 battle. Sunday will be the eighth matchup between the two squads.

- The two head coaches - Steve Lutz and Buzz Williams - are close friends and were at each other's weddings.

- The Islanders are looking to win their road opener for the first time since Nov. 16, 2018 when they defeated UT Arlington 73-67.

- The Islanders are seeking their first win over a Power Five institution since 2009-10 when they beat Oregon State 67-43.

- A&M-Corpus Christi returned three starters from last season, which included Smith, senior guard Simeon Fryer and senior forward De'Lazarus Keys. Smith was second on the team in scoring with 9.1 points per game, while Keys was the team's leading rebounder and averaged 8.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per outing.
