Islanders Host Abilene Christian Saturday in Key Southland Showdown

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball program opens the home portion of its Southland slate hosting Abilene Christian Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. inside the Dugan Wellness Center.
 
After dropping a pair of road contests at Southeastern Louisiana and SFA, the Islanders return to their home court with the hopes of claiming its fourth league home-opening win in the past five years.
 
Alecia Westbrook continues to make a splash for the Islanders, becoming a potent weapon on both sides of the ball to lead the team in scoring (129/12.9 ppg) and rebounding (90/9.0 rpg). Her rebounding totals rank the best in the Southland while her four double-doubles are 23rd nationally. At SFA, she reached the double-figure rebound threshold for the fifth time this season with 10 grabs.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi is one of the Southland's best in steals, with its 115 total ranking second in the league and sixth nationally. Paige Allen's 30 steals is good for seventh nationally and a top spot amongst league players. Additionally, she averages a team second-best 9.6 points per game and has accumulated six double-figure scoring efforts this season.
 
After a short hiatus, Saturday's tilt will be ACU's first Southland contest after last defeating Stetson, 70-55, on Dec. 20. The Wildcats are currently receiving votes in the College Insider Mid Major Top-25 poll. Anna McLeod paces ACU's offense averaging 17.0 ppg, while Alyssa Adams (15.4) and Madi Miller (11.2) round out the double-figure scorers.
 
Notes
-Lynn Tamis posted a career-high seven points against SFA, while freshman Elyjah Pricebooks chipped in a personal-best four points. Westbrook reached the double-figure rebound threshold for the fifth time this season with 10 grabs.
 
-The Islanders rank sixth in the nation in total steals (115) and 18th in steals per game (11.5). Individually, freshman Paige Allen ranks seventh in the country in steals (30) and 25th in steals per game (3.0).
 
-Westbrook continues to be a potent weapon for the Islanders on both sides of the ball, leading the program in scoring (129/12.9 ppg) and rebounds (90/9.0 rpg).
 
-A&M-Corpus Christi leads the league in blocked shots per game, averaging 4.0. Pollard paces the Islanders with 12 blocks, collecting 1.5 a game.
