Men’s Basketball Concludes Road Trip Saturday at Incarnate Word

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program will close out a three-game road trip Saturday in a 2 p.m. game against Incarnate Word at the McDermott Center.
 
The Islanders (3-8, 0-2 SLC) have been led by senior Nolan Bertain who has started to heat up in conference play, where he's averaging a team-high 17.5 points per game. On the season, he's shooting .421 from three-point range and .917 from the free throw line.
 
On the year, senior Perry Francois is the team's leading scorer with 10.8 points per outing. He leads the conference and ranks 21st in the nation in field goal percentage (.611). He also ranks third in the SLC in blocks (1.5 bpg).
 
Sophomore Jalen White averages in double-figures with 10.1 points and a team-high 5.7 rebounds per game. He has a pair of double-doubles on the year.
 
UIW (5-6, 2-2 SLC) is looking to shake-off an 83-65 defeat to Stephen F. Austin in its last outing. The Cardinals have conference wins over Northwestern State 75-67 and McNeese 83-61.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will be tasked with guarding the league's leading scorer Keaston Willis who averages 20.0 points per game. The sharp-shooter went 7-for-10 from three-point range against McNeese where he scored 28 points. Willis scored a season-high 34 points against McMurry.

The Islanders will begin a five-game home stand beginning Jan. 27 when they host Sam Houston at 7 p.m. at the American Bank Center. A&M-Corpus Christi is 201-95 all-time at home and 133-68 in the American Bank Center.
 
NOTES
The Islanders are 9-4 all-time against the Cardinals and have won four consecutive meetings. All 13 meetings have been under head coach Willis Wilson. Last year, A&M-Corpus Christi won 68-47 on the road and 78-70 at home.
 
- The Islanders have excelled defensively this year. They lead the SLC and rank No. 17 in the country in three-point percentage defense (.274). They also rank second in the conference in scoring defense (67.9 ppg), field goal percentage defense (.412) and blocks (3.9).
 
- Prior to conference play beginning, the Islanders went 22 days between games due to postponements. They have their final two non-conference games canceled and first three SLC matches rescheduled.
 
- Wilson has won 141 games overall since arriving at The Island University and is the program's career leader in coaching victories. He carries a 90-72 record against Southland Conference opponents.
